And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30 NLT)
Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. (Luke 12:10 NLT)
I believe one of the worst things you can do is disobey the Holy Spirit. After having a great understanding of the Holy Spirit, I make sure that I'm always aware when he speaks to me. He speaks to me through my word, through prayer and meditation, through people and I feel a strong tug on my heart at times that lets me know it's him. So let me get straight to the story. About two weeks ago, I went to pick up my dry cleaning. I walked back to my car after and saw a beautiful female police officer. For some reason I was so in awe...maybe it's because I haven't seen much female cops around lately or it could be that I'm just a homebody and never leave my house. After being a creep for the past 30 seconds, I started my car and the Holy Spirit started tuggin on my heart telling me to talk this police officer. I was like "Ohh no Holy Spirit, not today". He Told me what to say and I found comfort in that...but I was still nervous. I always tell my youth and young adults when they're scared to do out reach is "what's the worse they can say?"...this was the time I needed to put that into application. As she walked into the hair salon, I said to the Holy Spirit, "ok, when she leaves the salon, I'll do it". I waited for at least 10 minutes and prayed that she comes out soon...but that wasn't the case, I knew I had to go inside. "Ok Holy Spirit you win, I'm goin in" I said after slowly walking away from my car. I walked pass the salon she was in just to see what I was walking into and it's full of woman waiting and getting their hair done. "Dang it, there's a crowd". I started repeating 2nd Timothy 1:7 over and over super fast as I walked closer and closer to the entrance. " ok Holy Spirit let's do this". I walked in and let the owner ( I believe) know that I came to speak to the officer. I waited until she was done with her conversation and approached her.
"Hi, may I speak with you for a minute please?"
"You want to speak with me?"
Awkward silence fell over the salon
"So...ummm...it was pressing on me....I mean my spirit was pressing on me to tell you this. I just wanted to say thank you and I appreciate what you're doing. With everything that's happening now and how cops are being portrayed, I know it's not easy and cops need love too. So thank you"
After saying those words, she smiled, gave me a warm hug and thanked me for saying that. She made it clear that they....and I assume she means herself and the police department...they don't get that too often and she really appreciates it. We had a little small talk after all the women in the salon "awwwww" for a good 30 seconds.
I walked back to my car with a huge smile on my face. I'm pretty sure the Holy Spirit was like..."now was that so hard?"
For those that are in tune with the Holy Spirit, don't ignore that tug. The Holy Spirit is what helps us to act in obedience. If we can't listen and obey the Holy Spirit, how can God use us? How can we answer to the call? How can we walk in our purpose? How do we know if we're making the right choices in life? It's the Holy Spirit that helps guide us, teach us, convict us and comfort us. It's because of him that we have a direct connection to God. When the Holy Spirit connects with our spirit ( our Godly nature / what was given to us to connect with God), it's almost like an awakening experience; Things are much clearer now. Don't be afraid to obey the Holy Spirit. It's sharpening you as a follower of Christ and the person you were lead to speak to. You'll be surprised on how the Holy Spirit may use you. It can be scary, but it's a beautiful thing to be the person that helps, encourages, or comforts one Gods children. I pray that this testimony / story inspires you to go out there and just do it....remember you're not alone in this. God Bless.
