This one word that has held me back for years from accomplishing so much more: fear. Fear of messing up; fear of what other people think; fear of not finishing; fear of not starting; fear of the past; fear of the future. Fear is the feeling or condition of being afraid. When I tell you that I was fearful of everything, I truly was. I was afraid to drive on the highway, afraid that I couldn't hold a conversation for too long, afraid to go into my house if all the lights were off, I was also afraid to see someone pursuing the same career as me and doing it better. Me being in denial about my fear, I had a moment where I no longer wanted to live my life in fear. It was my senior year of college when I first started my blog. When I wrote the words “Love.Serve.Passion.Meraki”, I was like wait…this means I have to change my lifestyle if I want to live these words out. That meant fear had to go. I honestly have to say that I grew fearful just thinking about the changes. But, that's when my process of removing fear began.. What we tend to do when certain things don't go our way or it's taking too long to happen, we place fear in the forefront. We give our “fear” energy and power to keep on the same condition. So that means we purposely put ourselves in a position to be stuck. 2nd Timothy says, “For God has not given you a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love and self-discipline." This scripture makes it clear that the spirit of fear and timidity was not given to us by God. So where did it come from? What has caused us to become afraid of change? Why do we fear? It all comes down to this, we fear what we see instead of fearing who we can't see…God. If we feared God as much as we feared the little things in this world, our relationship with God would be more intimate. The space that we make for our fears is so unnecessary because fear will keep us stuck. When we are scared of going into the basement by ourselves or walk to our car, we instantly don't want to move, we complain and try to find another way. We hope something miraculous to where we don't have to move. I am here to tell you to move and keep moving without fear and timidity. Timidity means lacking self-assurance/self-confidence. Listen to how we identify ourselves when we put these definitions together: "We are beings that were created in the image and likeness of God that has a condition of being afraid and lack self confidence." Is that you? Does that sound like you? I don't think so and that's for sure not who I am…
Here are a few helpful steps on how to live a fearless life:
Young women, Adam and Eve experienced fear when they were afraid to come out from behind the trees because of their nakedness. Although they were literally in the presence of God, they still feared stepping out in their nakedness. Why were they in fear? Because they KNEW that they were naked. How many times has OUR own knowledge of what we think is right put us in a state of fear? Give your mind to God and don't try to be a know it all. He is the great I Am, He is the beginning and the end. Let go and let God show you how it's done before you start hiding behind a tree or in other words start making a space for fear. I love you and God bless.
